Souls channel consciousness, they channel energy. They're simply furthering their number just like any group or species - the Universe has an inherrent impulse to thrive. It's just that this impulse in them has become distorted at the expense of all else.

Why do they continue to harvest souls?

Through energy workers, grey souls are being progressively reconnected and brought back to the light, so it is the only way for them to protect and build their number.

Utlimately there is an inherrant belief that to insure and assure their existence, they must control their reality, rather than surrendering to the flow and the progressive journey of reincarnation.
