Hi Open,

Your posts continue to hit home with things going on in my life. It’s rather scary actually :) My 15 year old daughter recently admitted to her mom and I that she’s been battling depression. Prior to that I’ve been trying to help her deal with her anxiety in a natural way, through herbs, meditation and counseling. My daughter has been somewhat resistant to the spiritual path, but so far I’ve been able to keep her off meds. Unfortunately her Mom (We are divorced) wants to start her on Prozac and has scheduled an appointment with a psychiatrist. She’s convinced my daughter that the pill is a magical solution to all her problems.

I’m fighting an uphill battle to keep her off meds, with our family history of anxiety and depression and her moms single minded focus to put her on meds I’m not sure what to do.

My daughter is meeting with the psychiatrist tonight and after the parent consultation the other day I’m pretty sure the dr is going to recommend meds. If I decline my ex has already told me she will take me to court as my daughter has admitted to having thoughts of hurting herself (though we both know she’s not serious about it as she shows no other symptoms). I know her depression and anxiety are situational as she just started high school and has had difficulty adjusting as she transitioned from a small private school to a large public high school. My daughter hasn’t embraced the spiritual path and she’s resistant to doing the things that will help her (meditation, excersise, being in nature, diet, etc). As she has been promised an easy fix, she’s asked to go on meds. I’m afraid if I take this to court and fight this I’m going to lose my daughter in the process. I’m the only one not stuck in the matrix, mom, step dad, brother and stepsister are all for her going on meds. On the other hand, knowing what I know spiritually, I feel like a failure if I allow her to start meds.

Any thoughts or words of wisdom are greatly appreciated.

Scott
